The Wind

Waiting for the Wind

To move

To fill my sail or soul

To move me along the course

The path

The way

I should go

Sometimes

The stillness

Makes me nervous

No action

No hustle

No bustle

No moving here and there

Just an invitation

To be still

To wait

To listen

The Wind is Calling

IMG_7203

The waves are breaking

Foaming on the shore

The sun is sparkling

White on the water

The tide is singing

As it reaches for more

You could sit here

And let the constant wind

Teach you

Or a protective little dog

Who hates to see

his pack separated

Unity, perhaps –

No one should be left behind

Stick together

It’s better,

Safer for all

The waves might be saying

I’m coming back for you

Are you open?

Are you ready?

The wind relentlessly blowing

Louder than a whisper

More of a roar

I’m taking in deep breaths

Of sea air

I’m hearing the call:

Come with me

I am ever present, ever moving

Though you do not see me

But you can fly on this current

If you let go

See the kites?

Welcome Spring

cropped-cimg3824.jpg

Welcome Spring

Once again renew our hearts

With hope we cannot otherwise find

Unless you bloom with blossoms pink

And bulbs push up the soggy earth

Unless you conquer winter’s frost

With wind’s strong blasts

And skies that rend the heavy clouds

Welcome Spring

Renew our hearts with joy

To sing the ancient songs that well within

When sights of life and beauty overcome

Calling forth our voices

Our steps will lighten into the dance

Joining all creation as life renews itself again

This time each year

All There

It was all there

down at the beach today

we were hushed and in awe

at the glory in the rain

and in the sun

glory in the forest

and in the sea

glory in the fresh air

filling our lungs

in the wind

sweeping by

glory in the bright blue sky

and the deep dark clouds

glory in the walking

glory in the heron

chased into flight

by a pair of labs

glory in our pup

running back and forth

and glory

in the bald eagle

swooping near

Wind and Rain

Wind and rain

are good for waking a soul

from slumber

No sleep walking

when there is

a shaking, blowing

bracing wind

to contend with

and rain dampening

the leaves

scattered and swished

into patterns

as if a giant mixer

had them in it’s bowl and turned them out

across lawn and street

red plum, orange japanese maple,

yellow birch

Let my soul be awakened and shaken

My life lived

full of patterns and abundant in colors

alert to the possibilities

of each new day

that half closed eyes

may miss.

The Last of the Plum Tree Leaves

FullSizeRender (1)

The last of the plum-tree leaves

Are stubbornly hanging on

They have been through storms of rain

And shaking wind

As the darkness keeps growing

Encasing us on both sides of the day

Their fallen comrades have been raked

Piled and composted several times now

Storm drains cleared again and again

Keeping a lake from forming in the middle of our street

When will these last holdouts succumb

To the pull of gravity and their fate?

What still clings to me, dead and dying?

What still needs to go of my negative attitudes and unbelief?

Impatience and arrogance

O Wind shake them off!

What about doubt and despair?

Yes, please come and blow them away too!

Something in me wants to hibernate for a while

I am ready to

Let the outer bareness take over

And surrender

To an inner working

Where strength slowly gathers

Like sap in the inner core

Eventually after a long winter’s rest

To give way to new life and being

But not just yet

Let the rain, darkness and wind come!

Shake me once again

Until all has fallen that needs to fall

For this season I now embrace
