All There

It was all there

down at the beach today

we were hushed and in awe

at the glory in the rain

and in the sun

glory in the forest

and in the sea

glory in the fresh air

filling our lungs

in the wind

sweeping by

glory in the bright blue sky

and the deep dark clouds

glory in the walking

glory in the heron

chased into flight

by a pair of labs

glory in our pup

running back and forth

and glory

in the bald eagle

swooping near

My Auntie and Me

My Auntie was an artist

A painter and a teacher

My favorites were her fabrics

Sewed into billowing curtains and

Textured table clothes and pillows

Scattered throughout the house

In vibrant colors

As the sea breezes breathed in and out

For she always lived by the sea

With her thoughtful face

And twinkling eyes

She loved the child I was

I wished I had asked her

To tell me stories of her beatnik life

And how she adored her policeman father

I was a passive child

Observing life around me

Absorbing some of it

Rather than taking it

In my two hands

And bringing it in close

To examine in the light

I missed so much by not

Asking my questions

Some one kissed that girl

And woke her up

She is learning how to ask

Her questions now

Who and what formed

These beautiful creatures

My Auntie and me

Everything

Everything lost

Shall be found

Everything left behind

Catches up

There is a rhythm

There is a rhyme

A purpose

And a plan

A weaving and a spinning

Healing and redemption

When we see

As we are seen

And know

As we are known

When love reigns

In the air

On the earth

And in the sea

The world is on fire again

The world is on fire again

(Mercy for those near the flames)

The earth erupts and heaves its crust

(Mercy for those near the faults)

The oppressed revolt

Powers struggle

Who will be on top?

Who will be on the bottom?

Who will gain?

Who will lose?

(Mercy for those caught in the struggle)

The surface of the earth changes

Mountains fall into the sea

The seas rise with the melting ice caps

(Mercy for us all)

History moves on

One thing remains

Mercy is constant
