A Long Walk

I am in the middle

Of a long walk

With God

A journey

A pilgrimage

From those ahead

I receive these assurances

“Yes, it gets

Sweeter and sweeter

His face

Becomes clearer

His love

Thickens the air”

I have already

Tasted

That thickened air

And I give those same

Assurances

Back down the path

Behind me

A few warnings as well

Watch that curve

Slow down and rest

I have crashed right there

And stay clear of that

Mud hole

I was stuck there for a while

Don’t give up

It’s worth the climb

Green pastures

And still waters up here

The view is spectacular

The air is sweet

Paint Me in the Picture

Paint me in the picture

And leave me hanging

Near the corner of my mind

All year around

Paint me with

The photosynthesis

Bursting in every leaf

With the heavens

Erupting like it never

Had a worry in its life

With all the blooms and blossoms

Grinning from ear to ear

And the water

All a-dazzle

Dancing in sequined shimmers

And don’t forget old Baldy

Keeping an eye on us all

From his lofty perch

Making sure my

Ten pound pup

Doesn’t stray too far from me

I’ll need some audio nearby

Of the gulls and lap lap lapping

Of tinkling birch

And surging stream

Can you paint in the perfect

70 degree’s as well?

Northwest Sunshine

When the eagles soar

High over the high ways

I have to be careful

Not to bump the car ahead

There were four the other day

Two the day before

Did they notice the sun was out?

A rare occurrence in the northwest spring

Were they just being like the rest of us?

Drunk with sunshine

Low tolerance for it

Only a little makes us giddy

And run out the door

Crows

Today was about crows

First a whole flock a-squawking

With one bull frog keeping the beat

Then a lone fellow on a barren tree

Silhouetted by the snow-capped

Olympic Mountains across the Puget Sound

Beauty spoke

And Beauty called my name

I stopped and watched

Then later the message came

Alone and barren of soul at times

With impossible seas and mountains to cross

Yet, I have wings

I can fly

I am not unprepared for this journey

Still, no rushing these things

Study the contours of the wind and waves

Measure the height of the mountains

Search for the probable passes

Wonder at the depths of the sea

Take off when I am ready

Or not

Stay awhile longer

In the cozy, comfortable clan

Of squawking kin.

For Bill

The sun came out today

Such a rare occurrence of late

When we heard it kiss the Sound

We rushed out and made a date

Over the hill and down

To our favorite looking place

Calming our nerves at the sight

Feeling sweet warmth on our face

The grand Olympic tops

Through the clouds were sailing

An eagle soaring high

The work of the day paling

Perception

Perhaps with these mortal eyes

We do not see the full picture

We see only through a dark mirror

We are blessed and limited by our senses

So many limitless sensations

Beyond our capacity to perceive

Perhaps all around us is heaven

As near as our next breath

Awake My Soul

Awake my soul to this new day

Don’t miss the adventure of your journey

There are connections of beauty and color

Weaving and waiting to be made

Keep my eyes open

My spirit listening

I won’t ignore the nudge or the whisper

Directing my path

To see the glory in another

To listen and to learn

To give the gift I have been given

And receive the one offered to me

Omaha

The Omaha winter

Stretches its fingers

Into the fall

With crisp blasts of air

It’s a warning

To prepare

“Don’t take me lightly!”

She says

“I am just around the corner.”

The swirling colors

Of the trees

Take their time

To reply

“OK, OK,

We’re leaving

We’re leaving.”

Fractals

Pieces of God

Treasures

Hidden in all the earth

Until we see them

And wonder how we had

Missed the evidence

Of their existence

Am I one?

With His DNA

Hidden like a diamond

To be discovered

In my heart?
