Arrested by Beauty

Arrested by Beauty

Stopped in my tracks to notice

My senses alive

To see, to listen, to smell, to touch, to taste

These gifts all around

I am taking beauty personally today

As my beloved and I slowly walk this town

The bald eagle shows off his mighty wing span

The chickadees flitting from one tree to another

With their happy chirps

The autumn leaves in full display calling out:

“Look at me, look at me!”

I brush my fingers through the fragrant lavender

I breathe in the fresh sea air and let the sound

Of waves wash over me

Later the taste of fish tacos caps off our walk

This walking, this paying attention

Calms me, refreshes my spirit,

Brings me home to my body

Today I am alive, happy and grateful

Fog

Fog is besetting us

like a great horde covering the steppes

it has settled in for days

the more sensitive among us

are succumbing to a dark mood

today there is a dripping mist

hardly detected

but all is wet

lawn, house, tree and fence

a sign perhaps

this fell fog will eventually

dissipate and leave us free

from it’s clinging clutches

Fog and Fear

You wonder why fog brings a chill to my spine

there was a time I went for a walk by myself in the fog

I was young and needed some exercise

walking is good exercise

but maybe not the best for a young girl in the fog

from behind came one with evil intent

at his touch I wheeled and rebuked him

in the Mighty Name

he fled back into the mist

but still the dread and chill linger with this fog

The Cure

Begins with a walk with a strong son

no matter the fog with this cheery companion

the next day

escape to the Island

catch a ferry to carry you away

to the great rain shadow

where cloud and fog dissipate

in the afternoon sun

warming your face

the distant shore

clouded and shrouded

but you have blue skies

and gulls screeching

to gladden your heart

the fog itself is not fell

just the lingering memory

that heals when viewed

and shaken out

like a dusty rug

in the  sunlight

A Long Walk

I am in the middle

Of a long walk

With God

A journey

A pilgrimage

From those ahead

I receive these assurances

“Yes, it gets

Sweeter and sweeter

His face

Becomes clearer

His love

Thickens the air”

I have already

Tasted

That thickened air

And I give those same

Assurances

Back down the path

Behind me

A few warnings as well

Watch that curve

Slow down and rest

I have crashed right there

And stay clear of that

Mud hole

I was stuck there for a while

Don’t give up

It’s worth the climb

Green pastures

And still waters up here

The view is spectacular

The air is sweet

Lenten Post #4

Remain in Me

Keep in step

Keep in touch

Take my hand

Don’t lag behind or rush ahead

No lolly-gagging or reckless driving

Stick with Me

Close to Me

Stay connected

Abide in me

Walk with me

Every  day

Every hour

Every minute

Breathe me in

Like your breath

Breathe me out

To another

Don’t slough me off

Disregard me

Close your ears

When you get tempted

Or enticed

Don’t veer off to the left

Or the right

Take a detour

Or a short cut

Don’t get caught in an eddy

Don’t get stuck or left behind

Double your efforts

To rest in me

Fill your thoughts

With thoughts of me

Love me

I love you

Let my love flow in you

And out of you

Come back for more

There’s always more

You in me and I in you

And this is what it means

To live a life

Of prayer

MOVING

Moving

Helps me move

From lethargy and depression

To hope

Then joy

So move it

Work it out

Walk it out

Mow it out

Throw it out

Kick it out

Swing it out

Run it out

Speak it out

Shout it out

Then add some beats and

Dance it out

Lift my hands and

Sing it out

Just move it on out!
