While You Were Scrolling

While you were scrolling

Oh my soul

The clouds were piling

Up in the west

The leaves were falling

Silently around

The geese began their ascent

Forming their V above you

The sun hit the clouds

In it’s descent

The light changed

To a golden hue

Then became pink

Like the summer’s last rose

It lit the tree tops on fire

And the falling leaves

Turned to gold

The light hit your phone

And you looked up

Just in time to see

The geese overhead

The rosey light changing

Yet again

With the sun setting

Over the water

Caught by Light

A strip of loose birch bark

is catching the morning rays

A glowing lantern

high up in the tree

slowly diminishing in light

Only for a few moments

it held it’s rosy gold

The sunlight plays

through the forest

Who will I catch to

hold my light

Once caught

we hold the memory

and will never be the same

Fire

God uses the fodder

of our everyday lives

to fuel the flame

of His passionate

Refining

Transforming fire.

The result:

unimaginable beauty,

pure gold.

When the Church Became a Building

When the church became a building

She forgot her founder’s call

She chose instead brick and mortar

to build herself a wall

The doors she built

Locked some out, others in

Proclaimed who was holy

And who was still in sin

She lit the candles

Said it was time to pray

Blew out the lights

Now time to go away

She is made of salt and light

Her stones, they are alive

You cannot keep her in a box

If she is to going to thrive

Her glory is far greater

Than four walls can hold

She is to be a city

Shining bright as gold

She is to be a healer

For weary, lost, and sore

A comfort to the broken

And oh so much more

When the church became a building

She made a room for strife

When outsiders didn’t fit her mold

She crushed their heart and life

Church you are not a building

You’re Christ’s body and His bride

You’re His hands, feet, and heartbeat

The love He cannot hide

Change

Pressure all around

Chaos in the air

I don’t know which way is up

Which is down

It must be time for change

Again

Now to see this dark

In the light

That is my challenge

That is my goal

To cooperate

With the forces at work

To change me more into

The person I long to be

The one I was breathed to be

So much is out of my control

Yet so much is in my power

To say yes

And let go

To watch this fire

Burn all that is not gold

My Measure

Let my measure be large

Not of cake or pie

Or gold or silver

Or stocks or bonds

Or oil futures

But of

That which I give away

Of love and mercy

Kindness and peace

Forgiveness and acceptance

Then I will be like

My Father in heaven

And what could be better

Than that

“Give and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Jesus
