Caught by Light

A strip of loose birch bark

is catching the morning rays

A glowing lantern

high up in the tree

slowly diminishing in light

Only for a few moments

it held it’s rosy gold

The sunlight plays

through the forest

Who will I catch to

hold my light

Once caught

we hold the memory

and will never be the same

What I Learn from Suzie

When you are caught

Swimming in a lake

Between two volcanoes

And you think you see

A dead fish

Remember

It’s just a lily pad

Those volcanoes

Will erupt someday

But you probably won’t

Be around to see them

And if you are

Chances are

You won’t be

In the path of the lava

And the lily pad is

Just that

And that’s how it looks

To see a glass

Half full
