Faith

Choices

Choices lie before me

Which path will I choose?

Will I choose a path of faith, hope and love?

Will I take the time to listen?

Will I discern the gravity pulling me?

Will I feel the ancient forces of good and evil?

Will I choose the good?

Will I ask for wisdom in the choosing?

That is my hope

That is my prayer

I’m still learning

I’m still growing

The Path of Love

The path of love

Gets tangled at times

With weeds of

Irritations and frustrations.

Addressing the under brush

Clears the way

For the real

Choices to grow

In love again

This garden does not grow

Without my attention.

Planting new seeds

Watering, weeding

And plenty of sunshine

Of course.

What does love need

To grow again

Today?

I must ask myself.

I love how

Love grows love

When I love

My beloved.

Earth Groans

Earth Groans

Shakes and foams

Volcanoes spew

Oceans roar

Fire consumes

Chaos in the clouds

Bring destruction

To the land

Why this groaning

This upheaval

When will it cease

And subside

Another kind

Of shaking

A groaning

A fire inside

Each one of us

Is in the making

The treasure in us

Is being

Tried and tested

Extracted

From the clay

Together with creation

There will be a

Revealing

An uncovering of the glory

Two Worlds

Living in

Breathing in

Two worlds

Visible and the invisible

Intersecting

Reflecting

Sometimes rejecting

The other

Light and darkness

Competing for

Our allegiance

Our loyalty

And our attention

Choose a path

To love another

Speak a kind word

Comfort a broken heart

Share meal

Pray a prayer

Forgive

The two worlds

Become one

Your kingdom comes

Your will is done

The Handkerchief

I asked for a tissue

He gave me a handkerchief

I asked for a crumb

He invited me to a feast

I hid my face in shame

Not daring to look at His

Fearing anger

When all the while

His eyes danced

With delight

His arms outstretched

Waiting for me

To come home

Unresolved

We are Unresolved

A discordant note

A work in progress

Something still missing

Wet clay on the wheel

Longing to be complete

This is the time

Between times

When all is given

Yet  not all received

On our way

Moving forward

Everyday

Stopping means sinking

Sinking means drowning

Inertia is not our friend

Lord have mercy

Pull us up again

Blind Spots

It is painful when I trip

Over my blind spots

They show up this way

In the dark

It is only through

The pain

That they get

My attention

Now I know

It is time to grow

Again

The Path of Peace

Guide my feet

In the path of peace

May I do my part

That war may cease

Teach me how

To listen well

To refrain from judgment

Sending others to hell

It’s not my place

It’s not my call

Judgment stirs up strife

It builds a wall

May I understand

What it is to be

In another’s place

Not obsessed with me

Lean into You

Sit at Your feet

See through Your eyes

Everyone I meet

Invite the stranger in

Share a meal

Enjoy diversity

Let kindness heal

Fear will die

I can lay it to rest

When I choose love

It is the very best

Love will do the job

It will get to work

Root out the darkness

Wherever it may lurk

My Auntie and Me

My Auntie was an artist

A painter and a teacher

My favorites were her fabrics

Sewed into billowing curtains and

Textured table clothes and pillows

Scattered throughout the house

In vibrant colors

As the sea breezes breathed in and out

For she always lived by the sea

With her thoughtful face

And twinkling eyes

She loved the child I was

I wished I had asked her

To tell me stories of her beatnik life

And how she adored her policeman father

I was a passive child

Observing life around me

Absorbing some of it

Rather than taking it

In my two hands

And bringing it in close

To examine in the light

I missed so much by not

Asking my questions

Some one kissed that girl

And woke her up

She is learning how to ask

Her questions now

Who and what formed

These beautiful creatures

My Auntie and me

A Long Walk

I am in the middle

Of a long walk

With God

A journey

A pilgrimage

From those ahead

I receive these assurances

“Yes, it gets

Sweeter and sweeter

His face

Becomes clearer

His love

Thickens the air”

I have already

Tasted

That thickened air

And I give those same

Assurances

Back down the path

Behind me

A few warnings as well

Watch that curve

Slow down and rest

I have crashed right there

And stay clear of that

Mud hole

I was stuck there for a while

Don’t give up

It’s worth the climb

Green pastures

And still waters up here

The view is spectacular

The air is sweet
