Winter’s Hold

Winter’s hold

Is deep

Suggesting it

Will not let go

This time

The ice will never thaw

Life will always be hard

Hope is out of reach

Yet, I saw

The dew had frozen into

Delicate crystals, clinging

To the branches

Breaking my heart

With beauty as

I walked along

The frozen path

The mystery of

The fire in the stove

Sending out it’s warmth

Encircling me

As I try to make

Sense of this world

Is a comfort to body

And soul

The child’s pure laughter

Over a game of

Peek-a-boo

Beckons me

Don’t give up your search

For hidden treasures

Love, hope, joy, peace

Are in need of finding

Don’t Forget the Mystery

This life is more than it seems,

we know.

More than these mortal bodies.

More than the eye can see,

the ear can hear,

we’ve been told.

Follow the path

ahead of you.

When all seems blocked

or obscured –

wait.

Revelation will come,

light will shine,

a voice will speak,

or cloud will surround

and open the way

for you to go.

Transformation

or Transfiguration

will expand

your heart and life

to carry more

love and glory.

Advent: Musings of a Mother

He’s a puzzle, a mystery, a riddle

This person I know so well yet not at all

I only see a part not the whole

I can’t get inside his head, his heart

his skin for that matter

I don’t know why he does this or that

Says it that way instead of this way

I admit I am perplexed and mystified

I wonder at times if his mind is overloaded

Some what imbalanced

Yet, he is the one the angel

called me to bear

The one we have been waiting for

I know

I said yes, and I did what I was asked

I was not ashamed

I knew where he came from

But what kind of deliverer will he be?

How is he going to save us from our enemies?

He is so gentle and kind

This babe I once wrapped in rags

Where were the angels when I writhed in pain?

I heard later they were off singing to some shepherds

who came in awe to see him

I will continue my daily watch

Pack up and move with him

He is so weary and spent

He may need me again

Before this day is through

Missing pieces

Missing pieces

To the puzzle of my life

Fall into place

Not all at once

Bur as I keep moving forward

Along the path

Laid out for me

Round the bend

The fog clears

Answers come.

The worse thing I can do

Is to stop moving

That is when

The fog gets thicker

The voices from the darkness

Grow louder

The vines begin to tangle my feet.

As I start to move again

Towards the light

Hope arises in my heart

Joy springs into a song

I laugh out loud

With each purposeful step

Here comes another piece

To the mystery of my life!
