Something New

IMG_7109

(This poem is dedicated to the Arts Team at the Seattle Vineyard)

Learning

something new today

Thank you

for inviting

prodding

just a little

to get me started

to whet my appetite

that perhaps

I could

create something

beautiful

with my hands

with the help of

paint and canvas

paper and scissors

You could have

kept your talents hidden

or only allowed

the professionals

to join the fun

instead you threw the doors

open and

invited us all in

to join

the joy

of creating something

beautiful

I think

there are many

budding artists, singers

musicians, writers

etc.

out there that only

need the nudge of

encouragement

and invitation

to get started

on opening up

new streams

of joy in

their lives.

Peace Is

Peace is

in the centering

by strong potter’s hands

amidst the

spinning whirling

world going by.

Then shaped

and formed

useful and

beautiful

ready for

glazed colors

and fire

to set and harden

to last

my life time.

Coming

again and again

to that place

of centering

peace

until

every piece

is given over

to be shaped

and formed

added to

the masterpiece

called me.

On the Way to Meet Isaac

Isaac

The full moon called you

You answered and came to us

Leaving the warm secure

for the adventure of life and love

We are so glad you are here

No one like you has ever been

or ever will be

Unique beautiful creation

You

I love how I can see both your parents

in your beautiful face

I cannot wait

to hold you

breathe in your fresh scent

straight from heaven

Boulder River

Boulder River went unwilling

Into this present age of bondage

Where death and decay reign.

What would it have been like

Before knowledge was chosen over love?

It is so beautiful now

With the dense foliage on either side,

The waterfalls cascading

Down the sheer cliffs.

Would the water have been

The purest of pure

Able to quench the thirst

Of man and beast?

Perhaps the intensity of color

Would have blinded the eyes of mortals.

The wild things

Instead of hiding

Would come out to greet us.

The bird song so sweet

We would have wept and laughed together.

I know the sign at the trailhead

Would not be there

Warning the hikers

Of the dangers of the wilderness.

Here is what we do with shame

Here is what we do with shame

We wrap ourselves up in it

Like a blanket

Hiding our brokenness

Because

Somehow, somewhere, sometime

We believed we were meant

To be perfect

Yes, we were

But, we are not

Not a single one of us

We are all in this together

Yet

If we walk towards

The light

And little by little

Throw off the dark blanket

Bringing each broken place

Into the light

Then something new and beautiful

Begins to happen

We are changed –transformed

A becoming perfect begins

Not all at once

But one step at a time

Because

That light is love

And that love burns like fire

We will not die but live

And be made whole

And we will see God
